Grand Rapids, Mich.– Jennifer Wammack, Director of Outreach at the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA), will be presenting at the Healthcare Design Expo & Conference in Phoenix, Arizona this fall in collaboration with Adity Phadnis, Senior Product Compliance Analyst, and Sara Balderi, Principal Designer, of Designtex. The trio will conduct an interactive roundtable discussion titled Cleanability and Maintenance of Coated Fabrics in Healthcare Furniture on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 from 1:15 to 2:15 pm.

BIFMA will present an overview of its Health Care Furniture Design Guidelines for Cleanability document (BIFMA HCF 8.1-2017)that provides guidance on furniture performance in healthcare settings. Particular attention will be given to the topic of coated fabric resistance to cleaners and disinfectants, including test methods for determining acceptable levels of performance for healthcare. In addition, resistance of furniture materials to UV disinfection lights will be discussed. The performance of coated fabrics to meet the full range of cleaning and disinfection practices in today’s healthcare settings will be further explored through manufacturers’ examples of products in the lab and in the field.

The Healthcare Design Expo & Conference is devoted to how the design of responsibly built environments directly impacts the safety, operation, clinical outcomes, and financial success of healthcare facilities now and into the future. Conference sessions cover a broad range of topics all relevant to today’s healthcare facilities. The HCD Expo & Conference will be held at the Phoenix Convention Center from November 10-13.
