1.  Upholstered Open Flame Specifications

·       January 2019 notice of repeal for California TB133

·       Boston / Toronto Task Team 

2.   ASTM Fire Committee (Dave to provide summary from June meetings held in Denver)

·       Upholstered Furniture

o  Proposal for National Upholstered Furniture Flammability Standard: ASTM project to match TB-117-2013 with CPSC and BEARHFTI input.  WK 56607 New Standard Classifying the smolder ignition performance of upholstered furniture components using a bench-scale test (9 ballot negatives under review)

o  Radiant Heat / Chimney Effect test proposal WK 62424

o  Cube Mockup for Cone Calorimeter 

·       Flame Spread

o   E05.22.11 task group discussed the project to create a test method similar to S102.2 where the burn is performed with the product on the floor of the tunnel. 

3.   NIST Cigarette SRM 1196

4.   SOFFA Bill (Brad Miller)

5.   Proposed UL 2999 Standard for Individual Commercial Office Furnishings (new) – Bruce Bohren (UL)

6.   National, State and Local Regulations – proposals to ban certain chemicals in upholstered furniture

·       Position Paper –State & Local Regulations of Flame Retardant Chemicals in Upholstered Furniture Components is on the BIFMA Public Website

·       Status of our petition to San Francisco to exclude electrical components from the FR ban

·       Several states have, or are considering, 1000 ppm bans (but variations which is an issue) – Brad

·       BIFMA (Brad Miller) met with the new CPSC Commissioners on March 18

 7. Canada

·       Proposal for Canadian UL/S131 Upholstered Furniture Flammability Standard

·       Likely to use TB117-2013 as the basis per ULC July 6, 2017 meeting

·       Flame Spread - ASTM E84 vs. Canadian S102

·       CAN/CGSB-44.229 now points to ANSI/BIFMA X5.6-2016

·       Code Change Proposal submitted per our March 2018 meeting was withdrawn per our March 2019 meeting

8.  Upcoming Events

·       September 25-26: BIFMA Furniture Summit (Grand Rapids)

·       December 9-12: ASTM Fire Committees (Houston)
