STANDARDS, ENGAGEMENT AND TRENDS IN COMMERCIAL INTERIORS, AND WHY PRODUCTS MATTER
Wednesday, November 15 • 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM
This seminar offers a review of the value of standards for commercial furniture and how materials can affect employee engagement. It is intended to familiarize the A&D community, facility managers, commercial building owners, end users, dealers, and manufacturers with the issues associated with why standards matter and why employee engagement can be affected by quality materials and how it applies to their everyday need to specify sustainable products. We will identify specific standards that apply to safety and performance and the implications of what a lack of standards can mean to products. We will discuss the changing physiology of our populations and how employee engagement is affected by materials and design.[INTERMEDIATE][FM][INST][OF]

THROUGH THE EYES OF HEALTHCARE INTERIOR DESIGNERS: SOLVING PROBLEMS AND CREATING SUSTAINABLE STANDARDS THROUGH A MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH
Thursday, November 16 • 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM
Interior designers working for large healthcare systems have many opportunities to improve the environment and assist in raising HCAHPS scores. In this session, An AAHID credentialed healthcare designer will share lessons learned in the development and implementation of design standards, using current research, and benchmarking and conducting research (using the eight EBD steps) while working with complex interdisciplinary teams. Challenges such as conflicting goals, tight budgets and schedules, and keeping up with the latest JC, BIFMA, and FGI guidelines will also be addressed in the context of maximizing patient, staff, and visitor experiences by integrating evidence-based design strategies into design solutions.[INTERMEDIATE][HC][HSW]
