SEC Conflict Minerals Legislation and the North American Office Furniture Industry. Conflict Minerals include cassiterite, wolframite, coltan (respectively smelted into tin, tungsten, tantalite and their derivatives) are mined in conditions of armed conflict and human rights abuse, notably in the eastern provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Dodd-Frank Act requires public companies to disclose whether or not any of these minerals or their derivatives are incorporated into the company's products at any point along the supply chain. Although the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rule does not require privately held companies to disclose conflict mineral content to, publicly held customers expect their privately held suppliers to support their compliance efforts.BIFMA is hosting an informational webinar on Conflict Mineral reporting requirements on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 and Monday, August 19, 2013 at 1:00 pm Eastern Time on both days. This is an opportunity to learn how to best meet federal requirements. Here is the call-in and WebEx connection information for the two presentations of the webinar. Please RSVP to confirm your attendance to Roxanne DeBoer at email@BIFMA.org.
